Thanks! I spent about 2 hours cleaning the wood, picking small peices off and finally rearanging the tank......

was it dry on the shelf? If so, you may see darker water for a bit from the tannins, but WCs can fix it. or if it doesn't bother you, just stick with the weekly.

I absolutely agree with what your LFS guy said.
There is likely a lot of wood in the estuaries most brackish fish come from.
I personally wouldn't worry about the tannins; I have actually wanted to put driftwood in my tank purely for the "tannins" look.
