I'm going APEGIBLETS here! The package arrived on Saturday, as predicted, according to online tracking... oh, yeah, Campus Mail isn't open on Saturday! So I wait till Monday. My friend, who works in the mailroom, said that FedEx arrives at about 10am. So, I went down after my 9:00 class. The nice lady who works there talked fish with me while she looked for my package, and... no dice! Oh, wait, the FedEx OVERNIGHT arrives at 10am. The GROUND SHIPPING arrives between 3 and 5, and usually on the dot of five. When. They. Close.
Grrrrr. I want my test kit!!!!!

Good to see you will have fish in your tank.

I went to both of the LFSs. At the one I hadn't been to before, I got Parasite Gaurd, two pieces of driftwood, PH Down (the tap water is about 8.4 - ugh!), a pump, an air tube, an airstone, and a heater. Yay! And they had a really sweet cat that needed t be adopted, and she was so cute! Then I went to the old one and got my refund on all my fish. He didn't even do the math - he just handed me a twenty! I explained to him that I had purchased $21 worth of fish and snails, PLUS a bottle of worthless StressZyme; he got a single out and gave that to me. He wouldn't refund me for the StressZyme.
I had a bunch of teensey snails hatch out today from my plant - it looks like *something* can survive in there, then! I still have off-the-chart nitrite readings, so no progress there yet. Waiting, waiting, waiting...
Would a sudden PH change affect the BB?

I would let the pH come down gradually, adding the drift wood helps also adding plants can help.

All sounds good. Shouldn't be long now.
leave the pH be though...

I have to boil the driftwood, and that means going home. It'll be a bit before that can go in. I do have a plant in there - it's been there since the beginning. I already lowered the PH some, before I got Jase's post. I thought DPs preferred more acidic water? It's at about 8 now.

Constant pH is much better than changing pH. My pH is off the chart and my fish are all happy...

I haven't got fish in there yet. It's just the snails and the bacteria. The PH Down doesn't seem to be affecting it at all, though. I've pretty much given up on that.

Nitrites aren't going down at all! I've been doing everything the cycling article said to do, and they're still off the charts!
