Yes tannis will lower ph & hardness and if I'm correct the wood will rot quickly in (sw &/or) bw.
You're correct about the PH and hardness however most wood sold at the LFS will not rot. I have java ferns on bogwood in my scat tank at 1.008 and it is fine i also have another type of wood that's been in there for donkey's but i've got no idea what type of wood it is... sorry.

I wouldn't count on that.

So do you think I should be adding more epsom salt? I'm going to do a wc when I get home and then another treatment of the parasite clear tabs. Like I said earlier at least he is looking better, although still bloated. He has the neon green patch on top of his head and I think that's a good sign. Being bloated like he is doesn't look comfortable though. I will be sure to vary his diet also. I won't feed the krill as much. Thank you all for your responses.

Just wanted to report that despite my efforts, the GSP was dead this morning. Thank you all for your advice.

Sorry to hear that.
It seems to be rather tough after a puffer has severe bloating to allow him to release whatever is happening. At least you'll know what to do if something similar happens in the future.
