I forgot to add earlier that we didn't do the salt all in one water change. It got changed over.. a few months, water changes twice a month and added a bit then. Salt hasn't been added in probably 2 months, so I guess we probably started this 6 months ago. It's never registered on the other hydrometer, and I only bought a 3lb box of Instant Ocean. There's still, a pound left. It was pretty for quite a while with the salt not right away but maybe a month later and then almost overnight it turned into just regular looking water. Wish I'd taken pictures or bothered with the testing when it was super pretty. In the past couple weeks it got the cyanobacteria covering things, I washed things off today and everyone seems happier this evening. Puffer's belly is completely white again and he's busy hunting for snails right now.

Oh, and we started adding the salt before the new filter came, which is a Penguin 200.

Probably the reason that your tank and fish looked different after changing your lamp is because you bought a different colour temperature than the one you had in before. The lamps in your house probably look quite orange to give a warm effect and they will be about 3000K, daylight lamps are about 6000K and they are a white light, if you go higher say 10,000K then your light will look more blue.
