I personally feel that it should be a mandatory thing that all employees applying to work at a LFS should have to go to like seminar or a class that explains how to properly keep fish.

Yeah but that first takes having store owners that know about their fish. They need training more than anyone.

we did another check up over this weekend. im happy to say the puffers, while still thin and pretty ragged, no longer have totally concaved bellys. they were zooming around all over the tank, not just lying in one spot and their bellies werent totally gray

That's good to hear. I'm fattening up our Ceylons and Bronze puffers at work, and all but one of the Ceylons now have white bellies...so we're making progress, at least. We lost our porc today, don't know what was wrong with it, other than them insisting on feeding it guppies.

Thats wonderful that they care and did something to change. That is the most horrific thing to see if a LFS that has puffers and has NO clue as to take care of them. I have had that experience when I went into a store and saw tons of GSPs in a little 10 gallon tank, in fresh water and the same dark bellies, sunken, terrible looking etc. One of the workers came over and said "aren't they cool and great looking?" and I said "In fact, this is terrible, they are brackish and need more room." THEN the worker there actually got angry at me, and insisted that they were freshwater, "looked great" and he knew so much about them. OH what a day that was. Fortunately I have gone back there and they learned the lesson, and actually have an entire brackish section with very happy, healthy puffs. AND the worker doesn't seem to work there anymore...wonder why!
