Please do a search here on nematodes. I want you to be totally aware, if you do not surgically remove the dead worms, the fish will die from the rotting carcasses. Many folks have left the worms in there & the fish have live many years (seperated from other fish).

so your recommending not to do anything about it then pufferpunk? just leave them in and set up another tank?
he is not eating at all and if nothing is done he will starve.

a little update.
set up a QT tank and added some parasite meds. couldn't find anything for nematodes so hopefully this will help knock back the infestation. did a concentrated dip with great success. it may be premature but after the dip he swam around like normal for a while but then settled to the bottom as he has been for the past few days.
no matter what something needed done so this is the course of action ive taken. the fish is not eating so just living with whatever it is he has is not an option. hopefully this will help him regain some appetite and i can go from there.
thanks for all who have put in some advice. i never in a thousand years thought i would stumble upon a site like this. nor did i ever thought i would go through all this trouble for a free wild caught fish. i really want more puffers but want to set up some single species tanks for them.

If he's feeing that poorly, then maybe he's already had his years of doing ok despite the worms & now the nematodes have reared their ugly heads & it's just his time...

That's Punkster, she's a Tetraodon murius, or Congo puffer. She doesn't play well with others & lives alone.
