How much did you add? Are you pre-dissolving it 1st?

You should have had a salinity reading right away.
Puffpuff3 what are you measuring the salinity with? Make sure it is calibrated if it is a refractometer. If you are using a hydrometer the first reading needs to start at 1.000 on it. Ck here:

I pre-dissolved it first, and am using a hydromoter. But I finally got a good reading. Turns out I was using it wrong.
