Did Wilma say how big her nerites are? I ordered some from another source & they were tiny.

MTS are the devil.
One of my tanks became overrun with them (they easily outcompeted the ramshorns until there was none left). I tried getting rid of all of them by hand and boiling the substrate in water... some still survived. And I'm pretty sure they were the cause of one of my puffer's chipped tooth.

MTS are extremely good for agitating the substrate and eating excess food that is left on the ground. Sure, they have hard shells, but they can become a very useful addition to a tank.

If you have a huge snail population, it means you have enough excess food/waste in your tank to sustain that snail population.

Yeah, my old Zebra nerite *destroyed* my algae. It's too bad the reproduce easily... the Nerite population is starting to become severely limited because of all the collection we do in our hobby.

I've had olive nerites in my cichlid tank. I collected them in 4 years ago when I lived in Florida. Most of them are still going strong. I had them with my african cichlids but just recently moved out my cichilds and put in my Fahaka. Not sure how well they'll hold up now. Also, in terms of breeding, they've laid eggs before but the eggs won't hatch in fresh water. Maybe you'll have better luck in a brackish tank.
