Hey guys, here's a thing, you know it was said to soak cockles in garlic to get my puffer feeding on them, well that's been all brilliant, he's now feeding on cockles, but ohhhhhhhhhh myyyyyyyyyy GOOOODDDDDDDD, the whole blummin tank stinks of garlic now, what a pong, anyone any ideas how to get rid. apart from changing the complete tank of water lol.

Granular actived carbon will remove the odor from the water, but is not cheap for routine use. Once the fish is eating regularly, reduce the garlic and then stop using it. This fish is likely to have learned that the cockles or whatever are food and hopefully will not require the sauce.

cheers RTR, i only had to use the garlic treatment once thank god lol, where do i get hold of the granular activated carbon, from my local LFS, and when you say it's expensive, how expensive, god this forums brilliant, i really appreciate all te help you folks have given me.

You can get it at nearly all LFS. Its not that expensive.

GAC in quantities sufficent to deodorize garlic in a 120+ gallon tank on a routine basis is not cheap to me. YMMV.

well, believe it or not feathers, alls i done was cut up some garlic and put it in a bowl with some cockles for a few hours and that was only the once, but enough to stink the blummin tank out.
While i'm here, i bought a couple of king prawns to give to him, should they be cooked off before giving to my fish or just defrost and put in raw, might seem like a simple enough question, but again i'm unsure, so better to be safe than sorry eah.

Just thaw and serve. Soaking in vitamins is also recommended by many on this board.

here's another question that i hope you lot can help me with, can i put sand from our local beach in the tank, or would i have to do something to it first, or is there a special sand i have to buy.

I personally have no idea about sand from your local beach but i would guess at a no just because you will never be sure as to how clean it is whats in it etc
Im not sure about your LFS but my LFS sells bags of aquatic sand at 99p a bag which is not that bad depending on the tank size!

I would be paranoid about sand or anything else from a local beach. I was doing research once and found some maps of polutants around beaches and tidal areas around the world. Let's just say that it was enough to make me rethink some of my favorite beaches.

Do a google search for polution in your area and you will see what I mean.
