thank you, but this is just one more of those shops who has every species on their stocklist no matter if they really sell them or not. if you read it a little longer, you will find out that the species is labelled with 0 euro. in another place of the website it is said that species with this lable are not in stock.

blanketman, It seems you are keeping those in FW. One has a dark belly & their colors seem quite dull. If I were you, I'd try them in BW & see if they look better.

I had one of these in my very early puffer keeping days.
Had it in freshwater (did not know better) and it died after 4-5 weeks.
Go brackish!

Where did you buy them?

They're gorgeous. Do you know if they have problems with their teeth growing too long?

bought them at Dahls Dyrerike (Moss, Norway).

I have one brackish tank at the moment, but it is occupied by three tetraodon biocellatus and I'm afraid the tank will be to full if I move over the four new ones. but since biocellatus also tolerates freshwater, could it be an idea to switch tanks for both puffers - to weeks in fresh and two in marine?

Your F8s will get sickly in FW. The red-lines are fairly agressive--I wouldn't keep them with another puffer species. You need 2 seperate BW systems.

She's right. I had a drop in the SG in my F8 tank. When I brought it back up, I really saw the difference. Their colors were brighter, and they just looked like they had a better time than before. After that experience, I've been really careful to test the water when I do water changes, to keep the SG right. F8s are definitely brackish puffers, you will see the difference if you try otherwise (which I hope you don't do )

So they have cool puffers at Dahls again? Do they have any other interesting puffers there now? No, I won't buy anything new, except if the have a miurus or a salivator female.

the four T.E.s is now all brackish (together with the F8s) and the tank is a bit crowdy. guess I have to sell some puffers if they don't get along.

moved one over three days ago. he was a bit stessed the first day and calmed down the next day. then another one. another day. the last two tonight, and they look a bit stessed, but not more than the others.

no signs of agression between T.E.s and F8s so far, so I'm kind of optimistic.

F8s looks lame and stupid compared to the T.E.s, so I know what puffers I'll sell first

I'll try get back with updates (and a youtube-movie?) in a day or five.

PS! this thread should perhaps be moved to the Brackish Puffers forum?

not optimistic anymore. the biggest TE is now clearly the boss of the tank and is clearly agressive against the F8s and the three smaller TEs. guess the F8s has to go.

got them in germany too now. the traider claims that those species from iryan yaja ar all from freshwater habitats...!?

as mentioned earlier, my local fishpusher also said these where freshwater puffers. after a few weeks in brackish waters (SG 1.004) one died yesterday, and one is not looking to good tonight.

so this might actually be another species than tetraodon erythrontaenia? a freshwater cousin?

i will put them into freshwater first and then keep an i from them. got an e-mail from the exporters from irian yaja and they tol me the same. so it could (!) be the truth.
they have been sold to me as cf. erythrotaenia but this does not mean anything to me: just because they are from freshwater does not have to mean hat they are another species: especially puffers are known from a lot of different water types: some groups live in fresh, others in brackish and even others in seawater...
not to mention the possibility of "wandering" species.
