fahaka thrashing when cleaning tank

When I clean my puffers tank I do it buy bailing water back and forth from my kitchen sink.
Is it alright if I add the tap water conditioner to the tank and then add the water or should I add a little conditioner to each pail when refilling the tank?

right now I'm adding a little to each pail and I think it's hard to judge how much conditioner is actually in the tank by the end of the WC.

I`m considering buying a long hose to the sink and filling the tank with that, adding the cap of conditioner before the water. That of course if its ok to add the conditioner first topping up second.

I use a python to do my water changes. I also add my prime before I refill the tank. Much easier that way.

Well most people with pythons treat the tank as or after the water has been added from the tap. Personally that worries me a little: chlorine doesn't sit idly by until you add your water dechlorinator and I don't know many people with a big enough spoon to stir the whole tank properly
So, I'm a bucket person as well: besides, it keeps you fit and healthy and strong! I add my dechlorinator to each bucket, after I've filled it with fresh water. I then leave them to stand for ~2-5 minutes (and busy myself with other things like filling another bucket). Dechlorinator does not act immediately, no matter what anyone tells you.

I just add the conditioner right after I finishing draining - then it has more than enough time to spread throughout the tank before I start adding new.

Yeah, I was changing the substrate in my Fahaka's tank today and when refilling it, he jumped out! He started to puff, but I grabbed him in a split second and threw him back in the tank. He's fine now.

He jumped out?!! Thats gotta make your heart stop for a second. Mine is still afraid and he just goes to the other side of the tank when i'm cleaning and doing a WC

At least puffers are round! I had a new flounder I bought flip out onto the floor the other day. Couldn't pick him up with my hand or a net, he was sucktioned to the floor. I had to run around my house looking for a spatula!

My puffer did the same thing today. We travelled away for 3 days for a wedding.
We had my mother in-law take care of the fish for 2 days. When we got back he was pissed!!
He was doing the same thing, going nut thrashing about. We just stayed away from the tank until he calmed down.
Dang fish are nuts!!

Oh, it's a good story now that the fish is alive and well in his tank. I honestly didn't think that was a problem I was ever gonna have with fish though!
