Ntino.... I have a 9" Fahaka in a tank with a 12" Pleco and 2 Medium Size Jack Dempsey Ciclids and they all get along just fine. Depends on your Puffer. I was thinking when I put int he JD's they would be faster food for my Fahaka but they seem to have thier own space and actually the smaller JD follows the Fahaka around the tank...

If you have a MTS outbreak, I would actually suggest a small school of CLs if you don't mind them. They have plenty of personality and grow slow.

i dont really enjoy CL all that much~... plus they are extremely hyper, which isnt that good for a discus community tank, plus they get big and uproot plants sometimes

CLs really aren't that bad. I wouldn't suggest SAPs with MTS.

which puffer eats MTS?

If they are tiny, any puffer should eat them but if they are larger than about 1/8-1/16th of an inch, their shells can (& have been known to) break a puffer's teeth. I have them all over my discus tank but they only come out at night. I was shocked when I put in a watermelon rind for the plecos & saw hundreds of them on it in the morning. I didn't even know they were in there.

PP, are they still in there? Is that the tank with the CLs?

The CLs were moved to my larger 125g but there are still a few 5" loaches in with the discus.

And they don't take care of the MTS? That's odd.

I purchased 2 SAP puffers, so far they are doing well... One question I had is - one of the puffers, and sometimes both are swimming from one end to another end (6') back and forth, alongside the front glass(not up and down just back and forth), what would this type of behaviour usually indicate?

well doh... I'm clueless ~ thanks clearing that up though, so this is what they do half the time?

Actually... I got from a big LFS around here, the teeth/beaks were really big and the puffers couldnt eat properly, so I read up on trimming their teeth and did that - now they are much calmer and dont just speed from one end to the other, they also spend more time swimming together, as apposed to before when they were indifferent to each other. Could it be that they were really bothered by the teeth situation?

If they were so big as to be uncomfortable, yea. But don't expect them to stop buzzing about wildly, it's a SAP thing, they tend to always be overstimulated.
