I've caught larger ones a fair way up rivers, but I'm not sure why they decided to go up that far or if they stay long term.

Are they your guys, wishbone? Do they get along OK?
I know they were selling the NT species as FW a while back, but I've never seen the other one for sale. Did you catch it or buy it somewhere?

up the rivers? oh ok... interesting.. wonder why they go their out of the ocean? food?
you did say you got them in sydney huh? do you have any spare? even just one!


they seemed to have gotten along ok...

the hamiltoni have died... (i had issues with ammonia levels) i was so p*ssed!!

i found him as a 1 off in a fish store... ive been asking them if they are getting more.. but they say they are unsure....


its unfortunate that NT species are sold as pure fresh .. cause when i ask fish stores that have had them.. they all say that they are too hard to take care off... and they die!!! They really need a brackish environment not pure freshwater.. poor little buggas!!

How very interesting! Someone said to me last week that they saw a spotty puffer for sale in the marine section and I didn't believe them! I wonder which supplier they are coming from... perhaps an enterprising fisherman

I don't have anyone that I'd part with, the little puffballs are too easy to get attached to, but I'll probably be going out in the next month or two so I'll keep an eye open

I fully agree about the NT species. I was standing in one fish shop and they were saying the same thing about them not surviving in fresh (their problem was more one of overcrowding, the fish were practically shredded!) and then someone said "well put them in the marine tank, maybe they'll do better." I'm sure it would have been a great plan had they spent some time slowly raising the salinity, but no doubt they just plonked them in.

I've had a chat to one of the wholesalers of the NT ones, apparently they are coming in freshwater to them, so they've spent at least 3 weeks out of saltwater before they hit the pet shops, maybe more. Too hard my foot! They are tough as old boot leather to survive all that they do!

do you know which fish store this is in.. i wouldnt mind ringing them and asking them about it.. they might be able to get some form their suppliers?

i really dont understand that they are in the business of fish keeping yet... thie understanding of some fishes are just .... well... sucks???

Yeah if i could i would try and catch them.. i just have no idea where to go, how to grab them..

im within the western sydney as well.. so hopefully I get in contact with you in the next months.. with some of the little guys... hehehe

are they able to get along with each other??? are they schooling puffer like the hamiltonis (apparently)
