also tank size.. how many GSP's did you have in what size tank... maybe they just got too big for the tank..

but as said before.. feeders are completely the wrong diet for puffers and parasite heavy... most probably have been something along those lines..

gsp and fig 8's can live up to 15 years.. :-)

No, now ive got snails, and everying a puffer would need. I made the tank set up w/ plants, 2 flat rocks and a nice size open space to swim around.Whats a proper diet for gsp?

How big is your tank? I don't think you've answered yet? unless I missed it?

GSPs also need a pretty heavily decorated tank, they're very active curious fish and need plenty to explore.
A good diet consists of hard shelled meaty foods: clams, crabs, scallops, oysters, snails, small crayfish.

Yeah, if your looking for pure agression, I've heard Fahaka's are the worst of the worst, so I've been told.

In the old tank the puffers never passed 3in? They lived in a 10g but i never had more then 2 in the tank at one time, that only happend 1nce and 1 of them died in 4 days? everyother time my puffers were in a 10g all alone. I would feed 1-3 times per day, which is overfeeding from info ive now found

For a GSP I think 30 is the minimum..at least for adult. I'm guessing you could get away with a little smaller..maybe a 20 when it's a baby, but 30 is the min according to quite a few resources I've read.

I'd say the reason for death was overstocking - even one 3" GSP in a ten gallon is going to result in way more waste than their immune systems can deal with.

^ exactly. If you're planning on getting another GSP you need at least a 30gallon tank. If money is tight or something look around for a used tank, but it's a very bad plan to get a puffer for a tank that's too small for him.

I agree with zombie, don't get a GSP if you can't provide the proper care it needs, that would be cruel.

That should go without saying for any animal.

pluse if your looking for a viciouse killer why keep him in a tank that will keep him floating in the middle pretty much ( a 6 inch fish cnat live in 10 gallons)
