As for the spines that is fairly normal but if they look slightly swollen or agitated then I found with my puffer this was related to less than ideal water conditions. I would raise the salinity a bit and see what happens there.
My friend has just raised hi Ceylon to full marine and he looks the healthiest ever, a constant white tummy
