In my side of town cost more then $30 per dual light hood/strip for a 24" that fits a 20 gal tank but i will get one for the sake of my aqua plants. THIS HOBBY IS KILLING MY WALLET!!!

Don't buy a florescent one, buy a cheapo screw in bulb hood...

Put two 27 watt thread in type home use compact florescent bulbs(sold as "bright as 100 watt bulbs" typically), just make sure you get 5000k to 6700k temperature range bulbs, usually described as "bright day light" or similar, never "soft white" or "bright white", which are too yellow to look any good. They are sold at home depot or lowes or hardware stores,t hey look like a big spiral of fluorescent stuff but end with a screw in bulb part.
