If you own a GSP please read :)

Shakespeare had no visible tail spots at 2" when I got him, but has distinctly darker spotted areas now. I think as they age and the tail thickens, whatever spots are present become visible, but since the spots are so random between GSP, there's no telling how much.

I am keeping track of the stats you all supplied. Now I have another question. I can match the descriptions you already gave by looking at your posting name so yuo don't have to worry about confusing me.

Which of those GSPs have you seen change color? Not like a slight lightening/ darkening of the back ( where green is still clearly visible ). I mean:
- just a black belly ( green back still shows )
OR
- a total blackening, belly black and also the green on his back is cloaked black.

He's only an inch or so, and has a marbled pattern to his tail...

I would say he can go very dark, top and base... but i've only seen it when he was in his LFS shop bag...

Milton actually lightens at night because my gravel is whitish. He spots turn very light grey and his green color looks grey as well.

i wondered about that... my gravel is black, and my ceylon will often match himself to the colour of the gravel when he sleeps... i wondered if he'd do it if the gravel was white/light coloured....

i was actually wondering about that and planned to ask! Puffy sometimes has his belly turn black but still bright green on top with even the glowing dot, so I always wondered if I should interpret that as happy (green dot) or upset (black belly). He also sometimes (when severely annoyed---such as when ammonia was *yikes* 6ppm) turned completely dark. But I've only seen him do that when he is really upset (also when he chases but cannot catch the cherry shrimp). also, my gravel is white coralish stuff.

Lovely photo t1gerbee! The tail so so different from what I have seen on other gsp's.

My bigger GSP with no spots on the tail will sometimes fade on the top part of his back...the green area and his spots. My smaller GSP does not fade at all right now except the spots on the tail have always been very faded. You should be able to see the faded tail spots on my smaller GSP in my avatar. You wouldn't notice if I didn't point the faded spots out. It is very hard to see.

my two tend to go more Grey on top when resting as well as going darker underneath, but a few seconds after becoming active, the colour shines through again.

update on sizes aswell, Bonzo is 2" nose to tail, and Moony is 1.8" nose to tail.
