You could always order 2 or 3, and then wait until someone gets them in so you can try to get whatever gender you're missing later on. ^_^

I think he means that you can get 2 or 3 now then get 2 or 3 later so you can sex them.
IMO, It is better to introduce them all at once, you are just going to have to see what sex they are as they age. And I am sure with 6 you are sure to get at least one male and one female.

ok thanks i will have to consider that aswell then.. and if i have my 6 puffers how many snails do they need each day?

edit - and how big do those snails need to be?

I have not started mine on too many snails yet. Mostly blood worms for now because they are so very tiny still. I do use trumpet snails when I can find some that are tiny enough for them. I put the snails in that are about half the size of the puffers. There is a snail breeding article in the library if you are interested.

Dwarfpuffers is a nice choice. But I just want to say that 2 F8's also are fun to see. I have 2 in a rio 125, together with 6 bumblebeegobies, 2 humpback limia (recently 3 little babies) and at the moment a halfbeak.
But as many others say dwarf are also pretty nice fish, with all different personalities

i think that figure eights are really cool. also unlike most other fish they keep their bright coloring as they age.

good article when i have fully cycled my 120l tank i can use my 50l for the breeding so that wont be a problem

well my name is a result of a lack in inmagination really, i always seem to end up with silly names lol.

I've never seen my F8 nibble at other fish.
Only when they get earthworm or something the really like they will chase eachother away. I'm not sure to keep the limia's with them because in particular the male can be very pushy, feeding times and when he’s (sexual) frustrated. Very weird to see him try to mate with a puffer.

South American Puffers are good puffers, but I have no idea if you can keep them with other fish. I know you can (usually) keep other brackish fish with Figure 8s, which is why people usually get them fish (if they want a bit of a mixed tank). That was my plan until I found out that I bought Ceylons.

SAP's can generally be kept with other fish. The only bad thing is they require lots of tooth trimming, more than most other puffers.
There aren't many small BW fish to keep with F8's and they easily get bossed around by the bigger BW fish. Mollies and gobys work great though!

but how hard is trimming there teeth? is it something you easely can do at home or should you take it to a vet?

You can do it at home, but it's still nerve-racking. You have to sedate the fish in Clove Oil (or get a medicated sedative), and then you use cuticle cutters to cut back their teeth. There's an article about it the Puffer Library, I believe.

I'm sure you could do it, but you'd definitely be holding your breath the entire time, haha!
