Actually much larger WC are recomended with a real infestation--up to 80%.

the weirdest thing happened today. I feed my fahaka puffer this mourning. he then was hiding under one of his drift wood in the aquarium. I feed him again like minutes ago and I noticed that his ick is almost gone.

Im really happy that he is recovering. thanks everyone for you information.

Nah leave the plants, its really the gravel that harbours the cyst when they fall off so vacuuming that every other day will really help initially. The salt will then kill the free swimming stage of the parasite.
Make sure you add all the required salt at once and increase aeration in the tank too. With higher temps there is less O2. an air stone or pointing the outlet of your filter upwards to ripple the surface should be OK.
