i always pronounced it silon as in si-fi...
but a friend said it should be ce LON with the emphasis on the LON, as in a place near sri lanka....
that's the problem with the internet, nothing is actually said.
I have a ceylon too.... he's the bestest ever!
Ceylon is not a place near Sri Lanka, it is the old name of Sri Lanka (until 1972)

Although T. fluviatilis got its English common name, because it occurs in Sri Lanka, it also occurs in other coastal regions of Southern and Eastern Asia. Specimens from Sri Lanka are said to be different than the ones from India, personally I do not see any major differences.

The GSPs have only black spots, the Ceylons have black bars at their backs and spots, too especially at their sides.

They are confused with each other (and other species) often, so, naturally you'll find a lot of wrong labelled pictures.

Here's some updated pictures of our ceylons. Note the large bars on the top side of the fish.

XD

My puffer used to do that as well until we had some guests who's kids tapped and shook the crap out of his tank, now he's a big muppet and darts away whenever i come near the tank.
