A comment about food and the age of the fry.
The growth of the fry is depending on how much food the fry get. I had 1 fry alone in an aquarium where I did not feed it much. (It was an aquarium whit “other water” than the other… an experiment) It was growing much slower that they others. So potentially the fry can grow really quickly or really slow.

My “normal” fry started to eat 3mm black live mosquito larva when they was 6 day old and they started to live read blood worms/read mosquito larva (small thin ones) when they was 8 days old.
(I have the fry photos almost day by day at my homepage… so I’m not “kidding”) *s*

Maybe there also is more nutrient in other food than brine shrimp? Why I started to try and give other food so soon was because I could not keep up whit the brine shrimp production and because I had seen some aggressive behaviour between the hungry fry.

This is where a 'diary blog' would be really handy, just to know how things are progressing ... how long does it take for the 'belly bulges' (nice expression ) to go down?

Everything is fine at the moment. The fry are constantly fed so I am happy if I can see them with golden bellies from the BBS.

Well, the two top ones look like suvattii, I see what you mean by golden bellies , but the other picture could be an abei??

... or maybe its just me, I've got 'abei on the brain'

Just want to say the fry is looking good. And congratulation about the pictures. Wish I could be as lucky as you.

If I should say some advise, it would be that you should start to feed the fry other food also and not only brine shrimp. I don’t think they will keep eating brine shrimp. It is my experience that the fry don’t eat food that is too small compared to them self.
But just because that is my experience, it dosen’t have to be yours.

My mom used to breed African Ciclids..

well..it just happened really. The Jewel fish went at it like bunnies and made literally millions of babies, and the Convicts also were like bunnies too...We had to go to someone in a hurry to build some nursery tanks for all the babies!

Puffers are way cuter than baby Ciclids!
