hermionejanepotter12: once you get the new tank we can walk you through the "quick" cycle process and I hope it all goes well. Let us know as soon as you obtain the tank
they said nothing about it even though i asked but the store said he would be just fine in a ten gallionpurplecandle wrote:Just out of curiosity..
Did the store tell you that the puffer would be ok in a 5 gallon?
And are you sure you have a green spotted puffer?

im racking my brains about that one but i ready they do just fine in a smaller tank to there a very hardy fish and can deall with a lot of stress on themPufferpunk wrote:30g is the absolute minimum for just the puffer (as an adult). What about the other fish?
Can you post a picture?hermionejanepotter12 wrote:they said he waspurplecandle wrote:Just out of curiosity..

I hope you don't consider my post "insulting".purplecandle wrote:I was trying to be helpful and offered her almost triple was a gsp is worth, plus shipping costs. Now, I'm gonna guess hermionejanepotter is between 12 & 14. Am I right? You can't possibly expect her to have the wherewithal to properly prepare and safely pack a live fish for FedEx. I mean really!!
Let's just keep on helping her stay on top of the day to day stuff. This thread has been real helpful up to the last page. It would seem she's more or less stuck with the fish, for now, and I do think with due diligence those fish can be kept healthy. It will take a lot of work for her, but she's going to learn some serious lessons about fish keeping in the meantime.
Yes we know she is young..which is why I made my offer....
But what is troubling is that, instead of asking.."how do I ship a fish" or "I am really attached and love this fish and want to keep it" she says, "we don't have a fedex"
Are you serious...50% water changes will keep a gsp, a cinchlid and whatever else she has healthy in an uncycled, 5 gallon tank or Rubbermaid container... she does not even have appropriate food for the GSP I am willing to bet.....until her parents get her a bigger tank?
Yes, she is stuck with the fish and we are all willing to help..as we have all been trying to do, but this unfortunately is no lil swims...
What do you want us to keep doing? Nearly all of the people who have responded to this thread have been PMing each other constantly trying to figure out what to do. Before this thread my inbox was at 0%, now it is at 30%. There has been at least 4 or five people committed to finding this child some help, and we will keep trying to help if only for the fish's sake...
But, what we don't need is insults, not to the child...AND not to the handful of people who have racked their brains, tracked down this girl's location, called her local pet stores and found out about their store return policies...
Hermionejane- if you really need and want help we are certainly willing to give it..

What I think "you should keep doing" is helping her within the parameters of what is possible. Which is what I think you are doing.
You've tried every angle, and so far haven't made much progress. But you haven't given up, which is great. I give anyone credit who has suggested anything workable.
But then again, there is the Yoda admonition "there is no try, there is do or not do". My paraphrase.
I don't think anyone should give up on this project until it's clear that nothing else can be said or done. I also think people need to continue to help this young lady do whatever she is willing and able to do for these fish.
Suggesting nearly impossible situations and then getting frustrated when they don't pan out is counter productive, IMO. That, in a nutshell, is all I'm saying.
