I know I know I know, but I dropped all my money on the rest of the set up and forgot about the damn tests lol. And my tests I have now only the nitrite test is both.

So I will get a kit once I get paid thursday. And before anyone says anything about getting crabs(hehe) the crabs cost like 30cent each the test is like 40 bucks

originally I didnt plan on any corals but I got a good deal on some lighting, and the guy that sold me the lights said he was going to give(as in free) me some of his extra coral. Which is awesome

WOW outrageous the tests around here are all free... Feel sorry for ya lol. But once you gget paid i am waiting on a crab purchase story lol

Getting the LFS to do a test is free, but to get my own tests is going to be like 40 bucks.

jjj had the tank been big enough for a puff, I wouldnt be doing corals.

ha that makes more sense about the tests now lol, i dont know why i thought of it that way lol.

and yes multiple tank syndrome is suddenly becoming a reality for me

Hes actually pretty smart he can have tanks at his house and his GFs ! I get cracked on for having the amount of tanks I have ! LOL

Got my first inhabitants. 6 Hermits, 3 zebra and 3 something else LOL. I will post up pictures soon.

And this may need to be moved to marine puffers soon, might be getting that GSP from the forsale section

Looks like im starting to get my diatom bloom, my dry rock and substrate is starting to turn brown. Is there anything I can do other then wait it out?

Diatoms are honestly more than perfectly fine and normal, just wait it out.
In the future, I did read something about when setting up a new tank, put the water and base rock in, and let it sit like that with the lights off for a few days. This "supposedly" allows the rock and tank surfaces to form a "biofilm" that makes it more difficult for algae to adhere. I do know that stuff in the tank does feel slimy after a couple of days. I did that, and I haven't noticed any diatoms forming.

However, there is another variable, and that is the silica levels of the water you were given. Diatoms need silicates in order to form their shells, and that's normally one of the reasons people don't use tap water. I know you got your water from a store, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't have silica in it. I know the water that I buy does not have silica in it, so that may be why I'm not seeing any diatoms.

That being said, creature eat diatoms, and they are very easy to wipe off of the glass and syphon off of things.

Ya thats what I figured.

I added a emerald crab in today, I know im running a risk of it getting eaten by the GSP but it wasnt that much so its worth the risk. He is cool as heck looking, and is loving my LR right now.

LOL I use emeralds as crunchy treats ! But I hear you on the Diatoms . Im trying some of this Sea Gel its suppose to remove phosphates , Silicates and toxic metals . I let you know if I see a difference in the diatom levels !
