i think i read somewhere i couldnt use the mature filter media from the freshwater if i was going to put it into a brackish tank, altho i could be way off.[/quote]
I am curious about the answer to this because when I get to move onto a puff bigger than my dwarves it will most likely go into a current fw tank, and since I haven't ruled out brackish puffs that is of interest to me.

Thanks for the information....do you have any suggestions on books and/or articles that go further into detail on the fw/bw/sw levels and how they affect bacteria? Something I will need to completely understand BEFORE I consider the possibility of a bw puff. I don't want to make any mistakes when the time comes that could have been avoided. All of the information I have found so far tells you how to bring the salinity up etc, but haven't seen anything mentioned that a different bacteria needs to culture for the higher salinity levels. If I am understanding correctly....once you get to a certain level of salinity your tank needs to re-cyle to establish the sw bacteria...this sounds like it could be bad going from a new puff in low brackish that needs to gradually be changed over to higher brackish or marine.
