What is a Dragon Puffer?

Saw one in an LFS. It was labeled/in fresh water and had red eyes. It was hiding in a shadow but I could tell it's body was dark colored and that's all I could see. What's the other common name or scientific name for a "Dragon Puffer"? If it's a loreti or irrubescu, it might be getting a new home. If it's a Fahaka, I hope if finds a good one soon! -- Coop

Fish shops seem to have their very own naming schemes so the fish you saw could be anything! I would think it was possibly a Palembang puffer though, one of the lurker puffs and usually very pretty. I have seen lots of them named as dragon puffers in LFS's

Not sure. He was resting under the edge of a rock -- not on the bottom, just kind of floating and the overhang shaded him so I could just barely make out red eyes and a dark-ish body. Considering they all can get dark when stressed or unhealthy or tired, I'm just not sure what his body really looked like. And assuming he may be quite stressed due to the condition of the LFS, I thought if I tapped the side to try and get him to move, well, I figured best to let a sleeping puff relax.

Sounds like a lurker to me. Was he resting on the bottom, or near the bottom?

Probably a Palembang, like Hilly and Susie said. Either that or it could be a Cochinchinensis, Turgidus, or Miurus.

These names drive me NUTS, every stores uses a different one. you would think the supplier and the store would be more responsible. how can they expect people to care for the fish properly if they dont know what it is ?

My LSF employees and owner have tried using scientific names for stuff, but the warehouse is totally useless with them; they either get nothing or the wrong thing. They kinda have to guess what the warehouse means with fish names when ordering...

But yeah, I totally agree!
