Fugu Puffer

I have read about the few posts here regarding Fugu Puffers, and I haven't found much with google, yet, but I saw this on Aquabid and have become intrigued with these puffers. ... Well, there is an auction on Aquabid (from a user that I haven't heard good things about) for Fugu puffers.

Anyway, I am new to puffers, myself, even though my boyfriend has dwarf puffers in a FW tank and a GSP in full salt, which I have learned bout along the way.

I am just wondering about the Fugu puffers, I understand they are hard to keep, but any information on them would be great. I am not planning on jumping out and buying one, but I decided it cannot hurt to find out more information on what has worked for people.

What negative things have you heard about that seller, I wonder? If you do a search for this puffer, you should find all the info that is out there.

On auction sites just about any name can be and is used, but "figu" is a generic term for any puffer served in Japan.

If the fish is Tetraodon ocellatus or Takifugu ocellatus (same fish), they do not take to captivity well. Let them be,

I checked the Aquabid add & it is indeed the ocellatus. Don't look very healthy either...

Yes, I understand they do not do well in captivity. I figured some people would be willing to share experiences with what they have done with these puffers, what worked for them, etc. I do understand that really nothing has worked long term, but I am looking for information simply to find out more about a very attractive fish. I do not plan on getting one, I don't have any experience at all in SW and learning about how to keep SW with a practically impossible fish is a terrible idea, I know.

Also, before Aquabid had some problems a bit back there was a discussion about a number of members who were assumed to be the same person. I have not recently heard of the same connections, but since I had a very negative experience with one of the sellers that was connected with all of the previous discussions I remain hesitant toward the whole thing. Granted, the seller does seem to be doing something right with current auctions.

He has emailed a few times with questions on ID (I had corrected in the past). I also advised on care needed for the species. Maybe I should advise on the fact that these do best where they came from & please do not carry them.

That makes me feel very sad....does the seller know the fish invariably die in captivity?
