New Abei puffer

Post by Troender »

A week ago I picked up a new Abei puffer. His name is Eirik Blodøks (Eirik Bloodaxe was Norway’s second king), and I already love him. He is very healthy, and would eat until he burst, if he got the chance. He is quite small, but would probably grow bigger soon, the way he eats. He is very curious and comes up to the front glass as soon as he sees me. It took only two days before he knew I meant food. He handeled the move all the way from Sweden very well, way better than expected. He moved into his new tank at night, and the morning after, he had already made the tank his new home. I am so proud of him! And I absolutely love his personality.

I have two questions though. 1. I have never tried to feed a puffer bloodworms. Could that be a good idea, as I want to give him variations in his food? 2. in the evening and sometimes in the morning before the light comes on, he does something strange. He always stays at a special place at the back of his tank. He changes his color, and then kind of vibrates in the water. I have two theories. Either he sees his own reflection, and reacts to it. Or it is some kind of breeding behavious, all though he is alone in his tank. Any thoughts about it? As mentioned, he is very healthy, so it’s nothing to do with that. I haven’t dewormed him yet (which I always do with new puffers), but he really doesn’t look like he needs it anyway.

I would add some (not good) pictures of him, but can’t find a free picture storage page.
