Help identify my new puffer

Post by sievert »

Last week I purchased a puffer. The guy was selling them from a freshwater setup. He said it won't grow much bigger and even said I could keep several of them in my 5gal tank. Glad I only bought one.

Looking back, I'm pretty sure the guy would have said anything to get me to buy and buy more. And after doing some research trying to identify the species, I'm afraid I've got a bad setup for this fish, because it looks like a green spotted puffer.

Will this fish really grow to 6"? Do I need to switch the tank over to a brackish environment? Will that kill the plants? Or could this actually be a freshwater species that will remain about this size?

It spends a ton of time peacefully hanging out near a small mirror I put near the tank, so maybe it's a shoaling species. I think it's a female.
