Stocking a 15 gallon tank

Post by PuffPastry »

Howdy puffer crew!

I recently got a 15 gallon fish tank and currently undergoing a fishless-cycle. I have within the last week become fully immersed in the freshwater puffer cult, watching countless puffer videos and reading countless posts. I was curious— what puffers are available for a tank of this size? Is it reasonable to consider anything other than simply pea puffers? Thank you so much!

I have a lurker, M turgidus in a 15g. He rarely leaves his cave, except to eat.

Ooooo okay, that would definitely be a fish I’d be interested in. Do you feel a spotted Congo puffer could work as well? A target puffer does sound great though. I foolishly got pebbles rather than sand for my tank so I’ll need to change that, but could I send you a photo of my tank to get any suggestions you may have? I want to ensure the best space possible for the fish. (Also— I’m gonna assume the answer is no, but are there any shrimp species you know of that puffers would likely avoid? I’d love to have a small cleanup crew to clean ant food scraps and to add some vibrancy to the tank.)

Shrimp are pufferfood.
There is an article on the S Congo on that site I linked you to. I don't think a fish that likes to swim a lot would be happy in a 15g.
