Breeding Snails?

Post by S7ewie »

Anyone here had much success breeding Snails?

I'm just planning ahead at the moment. We're currently mid cycle on our tank in preparation for a couple of GSPs and I'm thinking about setting up another smaller tank for breeding Snails to feed them.

I've read the article in the library so I'm just looking for a bit more info from people with experiance.

What's the minimum and ideal size tank?

Which species are best to breed?

Temps? And light hours?

What plants and other things should I have in the tank?

Im torn between keeping it very simple for breeding Snails alone and adding a few species of fish to make it a bit more interesting to look at. I guess it depends what size tank I can get away with. If I can do something fairly small that I can hide away then I'll go just Snails. If I have to get somerhing big and expensive then I might look to add other fish.

Thanks :)

I have one snail breeding nano tank with around 150 snails in it plus a couple of shrimps to make it more interesting . I added few small fish but they started eating baby snails so I had to get rid of them. It’s important to keep a heater there - mine would not lay eggs unless the water was warm.
