Amazon Puffers in a 55

Post by Frobins »

Hey all, I have recently purchased a 55 gallon tank and wanted to start thinking about stocking options for it. I am extremely interested in puffers and Amazon puffers seemed like my best bet. I wanted to keep it full freshwater, and these seem to fill that role. What kind of options do I have if I got them? I have heard they have done well in community tanks. Any reccomendatioms with that too? Thanks!

Might I suggest Spotted Congo puffers (schoutedenis) instead? Unless you don't mind catching these puffers for dentistry every 4-6 months?

I have looked into them, but have found them to be a little out of my price range. I dont mind the maintenance. Where would you look to buy them?

Yes, they are still quite pricy. Try Aquabid or Wet Pets.

I've had a really good experience with The Wet Spot Tropical Fish, too.

I see Amazon puffers in local fish stores all the time. I would just call around your local stores and one or two are bound to have them. Also though you should buy PraziPro as soon as you get them, Amazons have always been extremely prone to parasites in my experience.
220 Gallon - 1 Super White Leopoldi Stingray
55 Gallon Planted - No Fish
29 Gallon Planted - 1 Duboisi Puffer
29 Gallon - 1 Red Congo Puffer
