DMD123 wrote: Wed Oct 10, 2018 6:54 pm The 65B's for me were already paid for and the way I got them were super cheap since one was free due to a mistake and the other was part of a reward from manufacturer. They are full open top but the tanks are made with 1/2 glass and have low iron fronts. So to buy another tank was really not necessary and the puffers will be happy with the tank space. I do think I might try my hand at something else and would consider something smaller for the Suvattii if it is as inactive as they are said to be. My hairy actually is pretty active in the 65B.
Wow they have that quality of glass. That would be awesome. I think it will make a nice suvatti tank. I like the hairy setup as well. I wouldn't sweat it. I'm trying to maximize space within a shelving system I have for vivariums. I originally was going to use a 40b but I turned it into a vivarium for bumble dart frogs thinking I would see these anytime soon...go figure

The little guy settled in and felt comfortable enough to eat a night crawler. I split it in half and it ate both pieces. Always a good feeling when you see a new fish eat. I might try some krill tomorrow and see what happens...

Here is the new guy tonight

Well he definitely has worms figured out. He ate two night crawlers and looked at me like he wanted more but I had ran out. He didnt even twitch when I used long tongs to get the worm to him. He didn’t meet the tong or anything like that but he didnt swim away. Very bold when it comes to his tummy.

I had to open up the garage door for a minute so some natural light came in and he didn’t like that too much because I found him buried in the sand.

He has a vicious look compared to my hairy puff who looks ‘cute’. Also seems like a much more aggressive feeder than the hairy.

Burrowing is what they do naturally, to lay in wait to attack their next meal.

I was expecting that but it had been sitting out for most of the time now. I notice it will go burrow when its not happy too. Like when the garage door was open and it was flooded with bright light and this morning when I was doing a water change.

Nice photos! keep em coming.
How does the Suvatti do with the current light you have for it?

It's been a journey figuring out what keeps the fish happy as well as what keeps it easiest to do.
PufferPunk's dilution solution theory is as easy as it gets except for the time to lay out the hoses and all.

The WetSpot fish store is a great place. Super choice.
1/2 the puffers we have are fine with LEDS, but some are not used to the man-made LED light and shy away.
To be able to enjoy the lurkers when they come out, I had to brainstorm.
I recently grabbed another Fluval nano freshwater LED that has simple timer/dimmer actions.
The light seems to be a great light for normal usage on small rimless planted tanks, and also for the
specific low-light combo on larger size tanks (my puffers).
The dimmer capable lights out there are a blessing to come on softly and pass softly as well. 'still brainstorming.

The puffer has been doing fine with the Current USA Satellite Plus lights. I have them dimmed down so no issues. They are also 24” on a 36” tank so again not too much light. If I turned them up they do get bright and the puffer would probably hate it. I have the same fixture with my hairy puffer and they have never bothered him either. I dont have live plants so I really dont need too bright of lights anyway.

Perfect.
That light has pretty good reviews.
Keep us posted on the journey.

I'll add what I do. I used finnex in the past but switched over to vivagrow 24/7. They work amazingly well and are cheap. Aquaneat 24/7 is another one that's doing well. I use these on my dart frog tanks.

How I deal with bright lights especially brand new ones is I put a green house screen under the light. What I use is pet resistant insect screen that I use as ventilation for vivs. You can get a cheap dimmer as well. The vivagrow 24/7s are like $30 for a 30" and has a bunch of different settings.

Another thing i like to do is use big pieces of driftwood and plants to create a natural shade.

So the Suvattii ate the first two days and has not ate again for three daysnow. I have used live night crawlers and it just hasnt even acknowledged the worms in the tank. I end up having to just pull them out. Are Suvattii picky about food? Or still settling in?

Now that I see it buried quite often. I think a shallow tank might be in order. My hairy is active and makes full use of its tank, this guy not so much...

It hasn't been all that long, but yeah these can be a pain to get on dead. Id leave it be for awhile. Mine turned its nose up at a worm today and hasn't buried yet.

Heres what Dray sent me...
Yours was eating frozen krill pretty regularly, but I’m sure it got some bloodworms and brine shrimp mixed in every so often too.
