Day 16.
All alive.

I'm going to treat them with round two of Prazipro.
I have been going on the low side with the Prazipro, then water changes.
Feeding 3x per day to make sure they are getting fully fed and not bickering or chasing.
One or two of them are still lagging behind in getting the full round bellies.

Included in this post is a poor snapshot of how the food came out the rear end on one of them looking white and stringy :whip: vs looking normally like a plump blob of bloodworm matter.

Last note.
They love their bloodworms.
I have two or three brands in the freezer.
One was San Franscico Bay, the other is Omega One, and I believe I had some Hikari too.

The one thing I noticed about the bloodworm eating habits of the schoutedeni was that they chewed up one brand and spit out the outer casing of the bloodworm while they totally ate every bit of another brand of the bloodworm.

Once I look into it further, I can hone in on what brand they ate 100% with no scrap left behind.
One package looked nice and red and plump, but I think that was the one that they chewed and spit out casings from.
The less "good looking" worm to me was the one they were eating more.
Looks are not everything.

You're doing a great job with them. I wonder if the casings will help with their teeth?

Out of curiosity, I've checked the price of a schoutedeni...Ouch. It seems that for this puffer, we fare much better in EU ;-) Maybe central africa shipments are easier here, or there is this german breeder keeping the market reasonable, or a combination of both.
Now after seeing how expensive it is in the US, I start to feel like maybe 50-70€ schoutedeni may be a reasonable option for my tank ;-)
If you find Shoutedeni at that price, I'm interested. Just bought four this summer, Prices in Belgium & the Netherlands are between €175-210 at the moment. All imported. The German breeder (there are two) don't sell outside Germany. And only have limited supply.
Saw MBU 'under 15 cm - 6") for sale at a Dutch aquarium shop, price € 795.
These African puffers are "IT" at the moment. And the Dutch importer knows his prices.
I got my baby fahaka from Germany. Cost me 1/3th of the price asked for it in Belgium and the Netherlands.
I will be posting an update on my shoutedeni next Tuesday (still editing it).

They were on eBay...strange for the Mbu, I saw one in a local shop in Wavre (30km south of Brussels) 1 month ago, about 15-20cm, 185€....and this shop is not among the cheapest usually...it looked healthy and very nice...but I don't have a tank big enough for a mbu unfortunately...
Having very different price between Belgium, Netherlands and Germany (at least west of Frankfurt) can not last for long imho: buyers will just travel. I know I would do it if it's close enough, I did it to buy my tv in Germany, I could buy my puffers there too lol...

Tetrodon schoutendeni 3"
Wild caught
Quarantined 2+ weeks
Eating every snail they can find!
$175 each
5 available

They still look a bit skinny in the picture, but not as emaciated as your photos so I'm skeptical about IP. Maybe your fish just need time to gain weight again.
These are possibly What's left of his group of 7. He separated 1pair.
If these are the remaining 5, they are all male.

Everybody is still ok of the 5 skinnies!

They chase, sometimes nip and are wonderful for personality still.
I do have 2 separate schoutedeni to total 7 and would say, they are some of the best puffers I've ran across.
Thanks for the forum support.

On a separate note, I just went full sprint puffer today.
Pao (Tetraodon) palembangensis (6-7in), and two Pao (Monotrete) abei (5in) ame in along with some more freshwater pipefish.
OMG these two puffers blew me away.
Stunning, ...absolutely stunning.

OHHHHHH NOOOOOOO!

Schoutedeni Eggs everywhere last night.
It looks like hundreds.

As I refilled the tank during a water change, the the eggs started blowing everywhere.

At least I know somebody is bumpin' and grinding.
Someday I will have some more preparation and experience of what do when I see this again.

I don't have the slightest clue of who is the pair.
Isn't is always like this.

Some noob like me gets a bunch of eggs, where on the other side of the coin, somebody with skills is pulling their hair out trying.

Nice.
Thanks for showing up.
I'm going to need some help next time I have this happen with random eggs all over.

This looks like a happy ending to a puffer pair meet and greet.
