Ocellated Puffer experience?

Post by faHAWKa »

Ok, now that I've been informed that the puffer I'm looking at is an Ocellated Puffer aka Emerald Puffer, Common Puffer, Sea Grog Puffer... Cutcutia... There really isn't much to be found online about these guys. I've read the few pages of info I can find. I've got tons of experience with various puffers so all I'm looking for is some real world experiences..

Has anyone on the forums kept an Ocellated? Any experience advice or specific care tips? I've always got ramshorn and pond snails, I've got a 15 gallon heavily planted as well as a 20 gallon long not so heavily planted available. The 15 houses only a colony of Tiger Endlers so another question, is the Ocellated a Piscivore at all? I'd love for it to take down some Endlers fry for me along with the usual puffer fare. Activity level of the Puffer? Etc...

So, looking for any personal experience before I grab this guy and get him home.

Thanx!

Didn't I give you a link to an article here in our Library?

Yes indeed, and I thank you. However, there's not much info on it or anywhere else. So was simply looking for personal experience from anyone who has kept one.

That was the personal experience of someone who kept one. Unfortunately, even the top fish experts in the world haven't been able to keep them alive for long, in captivity. I believe it has only been recently that they discovered they need cooler water, which would require a chiller.

@Pufferpunk I don't think the op is looking for the Ocellated Puffer Takifugu ocellatus. I think it's about Leiodon cutcutia (formerly Tetraodon cutcutia), which also has been called ocellated puffer. A quick forum search for cutcutia shows 295 matching posts, some of them with personal experience, e.g. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=30972&p=331981&hili ... ia#p331981 or viewtopic.php?f=4&t=28319&p=306240&hili ... ia#p306240

Oh gosh... Yes, very easy puffer to keep! I keep a similar species (L turgidus) & he is a very personable, rewarding fish.

@Corvus @Pufferpunk Sorry for the confusion and thanx so much For the clarification. Yes, it's the Leiodon Cutcutia info I'm after. The search wasn't coming up with much, but my fault as I was searching Ocellated Puffer instead of Cutcutia before I had the correct name. I thank you and hoping to get this guy soon!

Wow that's a relief! And yeah they're aggressive but not necessarily piscivores.
