Hairy puffer breeding (baileyi)

Post by Meryl »

Hi guys,

So I recently got hold of 2 hairy puffers and when I introduced them to each other, they exhibited what I'm quite certain is courtship behavior: they swam over and under each other, rubbing their faces and tails on each other and seemed quite happy to be really close to each other. The individual that I think is the male wafted the sand with his tail to expose the tank bottom as if in preparation for the female to lay eggs as someone has mentioned on here in a different topic. I know they are really hard to breed but If anyone can tell me why they think their puffers are male or female i.e. what they look like, what courtship-like behaviors they have displayed and if it was the male or the female that did it that would be a great help! Any info at all on hairy puffers that you have would be good please. If I successful on breeding them I will make sure to tell you guys!

Cheers
