F8 puffer not eating! Please help!

Post by Johnkerth »

My figure eight pufferhasnt been eating much. Just a few blood worms but really not much. Ive only heard that they're huge eaters and im worried. He wont eat snails that ive put in there and doesnt like freeze dried brine sheimp. Stats are
Ph 7.5
Nitrate 20 ppm
Nitrite 1.5 ppm
50 gallon fluval aquaclear filter
20L tank
Dirted tank with gravel cap
Just one f8 puffer
Nitrate and nitrite will be lowering soon. I put chemicals in to lower them.
Here are some pictures of him

1st your tank is way too small for him, you need a minimum 56L but really a 75L for him.

Why do you have any Nitrites? and your Nitrates are high?? How often and how much do you do water changes... how long has the tank been set up? Is it not cycled?? the Nitrites are really bad for your fish. You need to fix this as soon as possible... what do you mean by lowering soon? Why have you not done a water change as soon as you saw those results? You need to do water changes and often to get this to where it should be.

Have you put any salt in there? Do you have the salinity level?

What chemicals? In my 40 years in this hobby I know of none other than adding live nitrifying bacteria, as in Safestart.
GSP32, his tank is 20 gallons.

How was the tank cycled? If you have been adding frozen cubes to the tank & it was cycled properly, then it is the food that is causing your nitrite/nitrate issues.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Oh he wrote down 20L up there... I figured it was litres, I am used to using Gallons and we never write it like that here... I know some places us litres.

I checked his other posts, it's a 20 Long & he's in the US, so it wouldn't be liters.

Are the bloodworms frozen and stored in your fridge/freezer, or freeze-dried in a plastic can.
There are many knowledgeable fish keepers on this forum willing to help and give great advice...The advice is free; What you choose to do with it gives it value.

20L has always been confusing - I like that tank format and have used a number of them, but the coding can be confusing- I looked at the poster's geographic location also...

Are you defrosting & then straining the liquid?
