new fahaka not swimming around

Post by sw10mm »

I'm new to fahakas... and my fahaka is new to me, today is just day three.... he ate some ghost shrimp every day I've had him and a little bit of white fish yesterday and today.... but he doesn't explore all that much just kinda chills in one spot or another. Is it cuz he's so new or maybe a lil sick? Water chemistry is amm 0ppm n02 0ppm n03 10ppm I do 25% wc every three days he's in a 50 gal with a dozen feeder guppies and about 4 ghost shrimp... river rock substrate with fake plants

Were the ghost fish quarantined? The fish that you fed, was it frozen?

Also, please remove the extra fish ASAP. You can donate them to Petco if you have nowhere to put them. Feeding live fish isn't recommended because of the sickness and such that they can carry. Also, they're only producing more waste in the tank; which is already too small for the fahaka.

Let the grumpy bugger settle in, they hate being moved. Mine got irritated when I pulled the sofa out to Hoover behind it lol. Also +1 to all that is stated above. Also put him in a larger tank, you will be astonished at their juvenile growth rate. Lastly watch your hands, mine was an buttocks and liked to bite lol
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

Okay, and were the shrimp quarantined and was the fish you fed fresh and alive, or frozen?

How are you thawing the frozen items? I'm only asking because it actually makes quite a difference for your puffer.

Just in reference to it not moving, they are pretty lazy overall. Isnt it tiny too? Dont expect too much action so soon hes just nervous about his new place with a new face looking at him. Let him settles after a few weeks and he will get more comfortable and see you as the giver of food.

If hes eating fine, but tends to chill. Dont sweat it.

ITA...most of my puffers are lazy...just wait until the human appears and swim around a bit and magically she drops food into the tank...It's a hard life being a puffer.
