Had them in 1.004-5 for a few years.
What tankmates do you want to keep them with?

Re: ghost shrimp in brackish
He'll figure it out. It did take my adult F8 quite a few months to go on to hunt them. I only keep GS in my DP tank and also my BBG tank. I do buy GS from time to time for my two F8s to give them something to do. In my area GS are $.35 each at Petsmart or $5 for 25 at Petland. I tried to bread them once with no luck. I bought 3 cherry shrimp once and put the one berried female in breeder bucket and now have 3 generations in there.defool89 wrote: ... so I'm putting them in with my gsp that has no idea how to get one in its mouth so far

Re: ghost shrimp in brackish
I threw some in my marine GSP tank and they are still thriving in there while hiding in the LR after 3 months. (you can see them out and about in my POTM entry pic for this month)
WARNING: Puffers are mischievous little blimps with enchanting powers. You may not be content with having just one.

Re: ghost shrimp in brackish
The Ghost Shrimp I get are from the US Gulf Coast. There are several species in the trade around here - some of those species have slow-developing planktoic larvae and are difficult to breed in captivity. One of the locally-available species has a very short plantonic stage and is breedable in heavily planted FW or light BW. I doubt that it is cost-effective to hobby-breed them as feeders. The adults can and likely will eat the babies.
I suspect that river shrimp in the UK could possibly be similarly bred, but again may not be cost-effective.
There is one small Macrobrachium shrimp species which totally lacks the BW/SW planktonic stages and is easily bred in FW, but it may or may-not annoy or damage substrate-dwelling fish and fry. Like their larger cousins they may be nippy as adults. I do not know its origin. The adult males are highly territorial.
RCS are the easiest tank-bred shrimp for feeders IME.

Re: ghost shrimp in brackish
I've had several in my aquarium since the day after I set it up. Survived and did amazingly good through my fishless cycle. Have went tbrough a couple pregnancies. I've treaded for gill flukes recently and I think it might have killed a few. Only seen 2 since then. I keep my tank 1.003 - 1.004. My f8's won't touch them. They can swim right by and they pay no attention. After I get everything straightened out I want to get some more. They are interesting little boogers to watch!
We need a bigger boat.

Re: ghost shrimp in brackish
Shrimp may serve as scavengers of F-8 leftovers, which is a valuable service if they survive. But don't forget that they too are bioload, so do allow sufficient tank volume for all of the bioload. Don't be shocked if the f-8s eventually eat the shrimp.

Re: ghost shrimp in brackish
There are several types here I believe, they are found in more dense numbers in brackish water not too far from the oceans mouth. Quite likely best adapted to high end brackish. I have caught them in f/w also and most seem to do ok but not thrive in a f/w tank.
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

Re: ghost shrimp in brackish
I have had ghost shrimp in my high brackish tank (1.019-20 salinity) for a while now; and they are doing just fine minus the fact that a few go missing from becoming dinner occasionally.
