fahaka pooping white bubble string

Oh no! Sick fish?! Come here and see if someone can help!

Read this before posting!!

Since this board has been up, we have found there are several questions that routinely get asked in order to help diagnose problems. If you can have that information to begin with in your post, we'll be able to help right away (if we can!) without having to wait for you to post the info we need.

1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate). This is by far the most important information you can provide! Do not answer this with "Fine" "Perfect" "ok", that tells us nothing. We need hard numbers.

2) Tank size and a list of ALL inhabitants. Include algae eaters, plecos, everything. We need to know what you have and how big the tank is.

3) Feeding, water change schedule and a list of all products you are using or have added to the tank (examples: Cycle, Amquel, salt, etc)

4) What changes you've made in the tank in the last week or so. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.

5) How long the aquarium has been set up, and how did you cycle it? If you don't know what cycling is read this: Fishless Cycling Article and familiarize yourself with all the information. Yes. All of it.

We want to help, and providing this information will go a LONG way to getting a diagnosis and hopeful cure that much faster.

While you wait for assistance:
One of the easiest and best ways to help your fish feel better is clean water! If you are already on a regular water change schedule (50% weekly is recommended) a good step to making your fish more comfortable while waiting for diagnosis/suggestions is to do a large water change immediately. Feel free to repeat daily or as often as you can, clean water is always a good thing! Use of Amquel or Prime as a dechlor may help with any ammonia or nitrite issues, and is highly recommended.

Note - if you do not normally do large water changes, doing a sudden, large water change could shock your fish by suddenly changing their established water chemistry. Clean water is still your first goal, so in this case, do several smaller (10%) water changes over the next day or two before starting any large ones.

no not yet. some people said do it as soon as you get it, others said wait till you see symptoms. of course this had to happen on christmas eve and christmas as to where i cant find an open pet store, so now i have to wait till tomorrow.... its bugging the crap out of me that i cant get it now... i really dont want him to die. i wont be able to dose him till tomorrow evening. i have a 10 gallon i can quarantine him into for treatment.he is still tiny enough to put in there for a couple of days of treatment

Fish can live months with IPs. He looks great--not to worry. :)

Yea just grab some meds as soon as you can, remember they must be treated internally.
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

Well, at this point he is not eating. I am gonna have to treat the water first to see if it peps up his appetite. I Am still gonna soak his food in it and hopefully he eats it. The 10 gallon tank will be easier to feed him in cause its so hard in the 150 gallon with him being so small in such a large tank.

Soak the food in garlic, too.

Try live earthworms. You can inject them with the meds.

I picked up some seachem metronidazole from a l.f.s. I am gonna transfer the little guy into the 10 gallon and garlic guard, and med soak some bloodworms to see if he will eat this. if not i will go and get some worms and inject them with this medication. hopefully this works or i will be ordering prazi pro for him.

off topic, and my eyes could be playing tricks on me, but that seems like a lot of substrate.

I hope the little fella gets better, he does not look to be in too bad a condition.

He is in a planted tank. I have 120lbs of eco-complete in my 150 gallon. Its about 2 inches thick.
I drained all the water out of the 10 gallon and transfer water from his 150 into it. That way i could put him right in and he wont get stressed from different parameters. I am soaking bloodworms in garlic guard and med right now. I will see if he eats it. He is small enough that he has a decent amount of space in the tank. He is still expelling white string from him. Hopefully he eats and this works.

Water is not all that Important, bacteria does not metabolize in it either way. Only on surfaces of glass, decor, subtrate and the filter media. You could have just added your current subtrate, sponge from the filter and thats it. Tap water with primes better than old tankwater
You have the right to bear Puffers.
