Well, after doing everything for my GSP, Cosmo, I had to give him up to my LFS today... For anyone who has read my other post "Unhappy GSP", you know what I was doing to keep my fish healthy. Anyways, back to the main point, my infinite amount of unluckyness has caught up with me again. My roommate had someone come in one day to fix the sink, and they work for campus dorm I'm staying at. They informed me the maximum size tank allowed was 10 gallons, and that my tank was far too large and I had to either get rid of it or downgrade... they wouldn't have any excuses for why 10 gallons wasn't enough for my GSP.

Anyways, while looking for a pet store to take my girlfriends rats (she has to get rid of them because her parents are moving into an apartment), I asked the guy in the fish department and he said that they'd gladly take my GSP for me. I found that they also had figure 8's in stock, and I figured with my fluval 305 attached, a 10g with a f8 would be great... The best part about all this is I knew this pet store was good, because they kept all the brackish fish in brackish water! Go firgure lol. So I reluctantly captured poor Cosmo from his tank and took a trip back to the store. I was happy to find out they not only took him for me, but also offered half price for the f8 as a trade.

To get the new guy comfortable, I did a 100% WC for the tank, added a whole small bottle of TSS to the filter, and added new RO water with a S.G. of 1.004. I drip acclimated him, as I had no idea what S.G. they kept their brackish water at. The new guy is settling in happily and seems to be in good health except that I suspect he has IPs. His stomache is pretty sunk in, so after this weekend (fall break for me), I'm gonna start him on a prazipro treatment to clear up any parasites. I am new to F8, and haven't cared for one them before, so if anyone has any advice, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Finally, I feel bad for ditching poor Cosmo... But alas, I didn't have much choice.. I'd like to think he's doing good at the pet store, and will eventually find a new home to some knowledgable fish owner... or at least someone who will do their research and stumble upon TPF like me lol =). I'm happy I found a good store to at least keep him in brackish water, and I feel a little better knowing I did the right thing, instead of subjecting him to a miserable life in a 10 gallon for years. He will be missed, I learned so much from him, but it's time to move on ='/. I'm glad the new guy is ok though, and he seems to be settling in very well.

I hope so =)...
I can understand that lol, but what can I say... I'm a sucker for those big eyes and inquisitive face!
Also, luckily I only live about 30 min. drive from campus, so moving shouldn't be too troublesome =P.
P.S. I liked your library article on F8, I found it very informative, TY!

Thanks ^_^. I'm sure he's better off now though, it's always harder to do what's best >.<. Haha yeah, but I think I'll always be a GSP Freak XD, they started me into the puffer hobby... I'm sure one day I will be able to own one again =)! As for the F8, I'm sure I'll come to like him as much as I do GSPs, I find their coloring very colorful and attractive.

Congradulations! I wish I could find an f8 in my area. After you treat for IPs she will probably fatten up in a month or so. I don't know why I think she is a she? Don't you wish you could tell the gender...would make it easier to name!

Hehe yeah, that'd be nice if they could, you could have a girl with a boy name the whole time and never even know. Yeah I was surprised to find one too, it's such a beautiful looking puffer..

Anyways, mine doens't appear to be as young as I first though, nearing about 2", anyone know how old it is? Also, update status: the new guy is doing GREAT, he's eating, exploring (not glass surfing, yay!), and doesn't appear to have any problems besides suspected ip's and some fin damage (foul play from puffer friends lol).

I am sorry you had to give him up. I had a delimma where I thought I would have to abandon my GSP's to a LFS but I couldn't stomach the thought of them possibly being subjected to poor conditions at the store or sold to a negligent owner. Wish I had the room to take yours as I done it before for someone else on this forum.

I so understand. When we emigrated we had to sell or give up our collection of puffers, catfish and other fish we had along with most of our tanks and all of our electrical equiptment. Luckily some of my LFS found buyers for me and the rest went to a friend of a friend who had just fallen under the puffer-spell...

Handing over a 12in mbu and a 10 in fahaka was pretty sad for me..esp as I'd had them for several years.
