Just got my new F8

Post by EvilAsh »

Hey guys,

Just brought my new F8 home. Guy at the fs told me to get 2 for a 15 gallon but after I brought him home I saw that aqadvisor said that I would be way to overstocked so I returned him. I still have a few questions though. I put a snail in for him but he's too busy exploring. I lost the snail and cant locate him in the tank. Will the F8 eventually find him? I guess I'll be trying some frozen bloodworms tonight. He's enjoying the tank and swimming all over.

Puffers have to hunt for their food in nature, so its good for them to hunt in the aquarium. He'll find it.

OH man! Once I fed him some blood worms I walked away. I then turned around and he found the snail. He absolutely destroyed the poor thing. I felt like a proud parent that just saw my son hit a home run! Now I just fear that he didn't eat too much on his first day in the tank. It was an awesome sight though!

On my puffers first day in the tank, they devoured the population of 8 larger than eye sized snails that i had put in the tank. I figured they would slowly pick away at them but NOPE. It was really cool to see them team up and hunt down a crawfish. I had no idea how much they pooped, I'm using the gravel vac (without the mouth piece) every other day to get the crap off the sand. If you let it sit there you'll just have to do a water change sooner...

One of my puffers seems to be "the hunter" and the other waits/kind of helps him get the kill then they both destroy it. They have gone through two crawfish now, so i think I'll lay off on those for a while. You pretty much have to feed them an entire crawfish and its a bit too much food for them. :)

One of mine is a real glass surfer, the other one is constantly exploring the caves and looking for food. They seems to be good friends and great hunting buddys. ;)

Do you eventually take the empty snail shell out of the aquarium or let the puffer pick on it for a while?

Even with the bigger than eye snails the puffers cracked open the tip of the snail shell and started chewing on the shell. There isn't much left of the shells, so i just buried them under the sand :D probably not the best thing to do.
