GSP sperm?

Post by arn1905 »

Hi, i signed up just to ask this question, i had a google but found nothing useful at all. I also attempted to search this forum but it seems to be broken, so here goes. . . .

I came home from work and went to feed by green spotted puffers, got some raw prawn and a little bit of fish to give them, dipped it in and then witnessed the following.

The largest (3 inch)of my puffers began to twitch, like it was having a fit. Then a large stream of white ropey liquid came out for a few seconds (Then another puffer ate some of it.....)

I have no idea what this was, i assumed it was just the puffer ejaculating but thought i would ask just in case it was something serious.

I am now open ears if anyone can help to clarify this,

It sounds like your puffer has IP (Internal Parasites). You need to Deworm him as soon as possibly

First off welcome, the search function is currently broken. Where you from? Sounds like egg expelling to me, could be wrong tho. Boy your puffers must like food time lol
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

Any other symptoms i should look out for?

I have used IP formula not too long ago and they seem to be eating fine.

Hertfordshire in England.

That's what i thought.

Saw it shaking and twitching, so thought he might not like the fish.
Then saw all this and thought he must have loved it a bit too much

Or she lol. I would treat for ip's just to be safe, make sure you treat the food with a suitable medication, jungle parasite tabs seem to be the favourite on this forum, they seem to get the best results. Was there a noticeable abdomen size difference before and after? If it was indeed eggs it's abdomen would have been swollen prior to expelling. Tell us a little about your set up

3" GSP isn't sexually mature. Probably just pooping. If it's stringy or white, treat for IPs. You must soak their food in the meds.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

I've bred an awful lot of fish and so far as I can recall, I do not remember ever seeing any sperm despite having seen many hundreds of spawnings. But I have never seen puffers spawning.

My mistake, he's about 4 inches, the other is about 3.

Looked nothing like his poop.
Had the consistency of sperm and he/she did a little twitching/shaking before expelling it, then went immediately into hiding for some reason.

Unless he/she does have IP.
Treated them for IP just in case.

I do a treatment then follow it up about 7 days after the initial treatment.
