Congo + marbled cray??
I haven't been in for a while, my puffers are doing fine. (still have my darling congo Tater, and the irrubesco) I'm moving again though, and was thinking of consolidating 3 tanks.
My Congo is alone, naturally. But I have two marbled crays who have now begun to breed. Or clone...or whatever they do, lol.
Question: Does anyone keep a self-cloning marbled cray in the same tank as your Congo so she can eat babies as they are released? And if so what size tank?
Right now I have her in a 20 high and she does well. I have a fair number of live plants to help with nitrates (which have always been zero, thank goodness) and of course as you all taught me, frequent water changes and filter rinses.
I'm planning on moving her tank over here tomorrow, and thinking I will put the cray in when I set her tank up again. Then again if it's a bad idea I'd like to know. The crays are pretty cool, I don't want her torturing them.

I don't see how that will work. Keep them all separated.
Kind regards,

Really? It is almost twice as big as she is. They must really be voraciousArny wrote:Your Congo will eat all the adult and juvenile marble crays
Still nothing would surprise me. She is quite the hunter. Thanks for the advice.

Puffers do not appear to have the concept of their size versus the size of potential prey. A dwarf puffer would be happy to nibble a larger Angelfish's fins - unless the angel ate him first.

ya i tossed a large fiddler into my small puffers tank, it lived less then 24 hours before i found it eaten from the rear foward.
They are great hunters and will find a weak spot and pick it to death

Or the cray might grab a buried puffers eye and blind it. If is much bigger it may strike first if it feels threatened
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

Re: Congo + marbled cray??
I keep my Dwarf Puffer and my cherry shrimp together and it has worked out great for a while now...
Other species and other shrimp / crays is taboo.. at best... with marbled that is an experiment in the works. Marbled Crays are so new that we really don't know that much about the breeding process.
If you go that route, and I am not saying you shouldn't, be prepared to document and photo your progress. Let us know and we can relay the results for better or for worse.

Re: Congo + marbled cray??
For marbled crays do they breed on their own? Or I still need a pair.. I got 2 recently but 1 passed away... I am not sure if its a marbled actually as it starting to turn more redish.. More like a common red Cray..
I am not a Troll, I am just pissed..!
