can i feed clams to figgy? i saw some frozen ones

Post by hadla »

on the dr foster and smith website and thought of asking my lfs to order some for me when they order their frozen food so i dont have to pay $25 for shipping of one package. first, ill call a few stores to see if they alreayd have some in stock. the article on figure 8 puffers only says mussels or cockles so thats why im asking. the clams i saw are only an inch big so i wouldnt have to break them up as much as bigger bivalves.

these are what im talking about: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/p ... atid=23950

LoL just order $50 worth of stuff and get free shipping?? Too bad shipping is so much on it though = / that's a good size for puffer food.

1 box of salt does it for every order I place.

Meh, I think I am going to check out the little Asian market that is about a 15 minute drive from our apartment. They have ALL kinds of seafood there, and most of it's live when you buy it. And it's super cheap ^.^ it might be a little bit of extra work, but at least I know it will be good haha.

If you buy more frozen food and it all comes in a box for $25, it might be worth it, but IMO, $25 shipping is a little rich for a 4oz bag of clams = /

****just saw PP's post, that's a good idea, although I just bough a 5 gallon bucket = / won't need salt for a while LOL

Plenty of clams etc, in the seafood section of most grocery stores. Asian market is good too.

Heather, I bought the bag of "clams on the halfshell" at the LFS for my F8s -- they wouldn't touch them. Total waste of $$$. I wish I'd done what goldielocke is suggesting, and just bought a single clam at the market to try it out first.
Yo ho, yo ho, a puffer's life for me.

thats what I want to do, but i havent seen any clams anywhere, only oysters. i just wanted to get her clams to help with her beak cause all i give her are bloodworms and i cant seem to keep snails alive for long. do puffers eat oysters? if i break it with a hammer and scrape most of the meat off?

Anything with a shell is fine. Mussels have lots less meat.
