Re: New Tank for Balki!
I'm super proud of how brave Balki was today. When I woke up, I didn't see him, and looked in the back area behind the background, and not only did he swim through the tunnels I made him, he even managed to squeeze through behind the eggcrate and was hanging ot in the heater compartment. He squeezed back out when he saw me, swam out through one tunnel, turned around, swam into a different one , then out another back to the front of the tank. I'm really glad he isn't afraid of the fake lava because I was getting sad thinking he wouldn't use the tunnels I made for him. But, I did have to reinforce the eggcrate with supplemental pieces to make sure he can't squeeze back there again, I don't want him to get stuck. That kind of sucked because I had about 3" of space to work with, glad I have small hands.
The commotion also upset Balki, so he's back to pacing again! Lol

Me too, watching him pace makes me wanna leave the room.
I'm glad he's adjusting though. I really over estimated his size, he's a pretty small little dude still.

Re: New Tank for Balki!
I haven't clicked on this thread in a few days because it got so silly... I see that nothing has changed. I was feeling guilty not posting about Balki's new tank.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Re: New Tank for Balki!
Fortunately the reinforcements worked, Balki was sleeping in the bottom cave I the back, but wasn't able to fit into the heater and powerhead compartment. I'm thinking also that the change in lighting might be overwhelming to him, so I'm just going to use half the lights for a few days and see if he paces less. No picture update today, I was going to try to take one of him in the cave, but the moonlight wasn't bright enough to get a good shot since it's at the back of the tank.
But at least he's settling in!
I'll be glad when I don't feel the urge to get up in the middle of the night to make sure he's ok lol

Re: New Tank for Balki!
I don't have a sump, but I made a compartment in the back for the powerhead, later to be the skimmer area, and heater. I just overestimated his size, so I had to redo that area, it's good now, he can't get to it. I just had to overlap the eggcrate to fill the gaps. Orangjello can get there, but he can't bite the wires.

Re: New Tank for Balki!
One day this tank will be a sump though methinks!
We want to set up a really big tank for Balki when we have our own house. We are ridiculously fond of his little fish face.
