Back on the original topic, I used snails as staples for F-8s, SAPs, and DPs (although the DPs bite and slurp rather than crush).

I also used them for young GSPs, or any small or young hunter-predator, but not necessarily as staples.

Thanks. Some people are just TOO lazy to make their own threads...

Which snails did you use for the DP's and F8's?

I'm sure RTR will answer, but I'll go ahead and chip in that my Dwarfs and Figure 8 will eat pond snails and ramshorn snails. Anything else is generally too big or too hard.

xrayjeeper has over 3500 posts, he is far from too lazy to start his own thread. You have gotten prompt and courteous replies to your questions, please remember to be polite.

Pond snails are great, ramshorns are great to a certain size, but can be pre-crushed, avoid malaysian trumpet snails as they can break puffer teeth.

I wouldn't say I'm lazy, just easily distracted. :) Sorry about that man.

Yup, I use the standard common pond snails and ramshorn snails for feeders.

Both of those can grow too large for small fish, but puffer folks seem to always have larger puffers around which enjoy snails also. Folks with small snail breeding tanks may not have that issue often, but those with multiple FW "veggie" filters rarely lack a wide range of snail sizes. :)

When they are larger than the puffer's eye, you can squish them before feeding.
