Backround in Styrofoam

Since it's was settled that me and my gf is moving into a bigger appartment i decided that now is a perfect time to make a backround for the big tank so here is the result so far... just need some good varnish and it will be ready for assembly when moving day arrives =)

I maked it with some styrofoam that i cut into some kind of rocky/stone shapes and then i used a so called "home concrete" to cover the styrofoam.
I painted it up with a black bottom layer and drybrushed it later with gray and khaki brown to make the details stand out a little... and now i just need to order the special varnish with a price tag nearly to printer ink, Dooh :durr:

So here is the result so far..

No it's not that thick... its only about 5cm / 1.9inch thick apart from one side were it's 10cm thick =) .
And the tank is about 540litres / 145gal, hmm... maybe you are right :shock:

Well i simply used industry thick styrofoam sheets and some home cement... works with regular bathroom cement as well.. and for the paint i had some old warhammer/citadel paint that have been fermented for 15years in a basement :D

I hope you don't plan on keeping plecos in the same tank. They love munching on styrofoam.

Naa that wouldn't be nice to the plecos sharing a tank with a Fahaka :wink: .
But it will be a perfect hideout for the small cherry shrimps thats are going to act clean-up crew when the Blobb is getting a bit older =) .

And if i had plecos they wouldn't be able to munch the styrofoam since it is covered in cement,paint and a bucket full of varnish :D .

Btw, thanks for the input... that is why this forum is so great nice and friendly inputs, like it alot since i have to much crazy ideas and sometimes not thinking them thougly over :D .

It took about 4-5 hours building the styrofoam cutter and cutting the blocks into shape and then 2-3hours painting and drybryshing it.
Now only thing remaining is to apply the varnish in 2-3 layers and give it several waterbaths before i can install it in the tank

The cost has been so far is:

Styrofoam 0$ (got it from some construction guys at work)
Home cement $ 6
Making a styrofoam cutter $ 7-8
Paint and aerosolspray $ 14 (the aerosol is expensive here thanks to the graffiti gangsters)
And the varnish $ 20 for 1-2litres
