New to Forum and new puffer friend

Post by markr4200 »

I went to the shadiest fish store I have ever been to and I saw this little guy with 3 porqupines... the owner didnt know what it was so he told me it was 10 bucks. I felt bad and bought it (rookie mistake but I'm sure anyone else who bought it would have killed him by now). Anyone know what it is?

It is currently eating tubiflex and brine shrimp but only when they are close to his face and moving with the current-- this worries me a bit but atleast he is eating!

Please help me ID so I can correctly take care of this little guy

[welcome] It's a little burrfish. Much like a porcupine puffer but will not grow as big.

Oh yeah, here is a link for a much better diet for your new burrfish.

[welcome]
It's a cute little thing you have there! :D I am terrible at ID-ing SW fishes, so I won't try with this one either. But if it's a little burrfish, make sure you medicate him/her for IPs. Burrfishes have a lot of problems with IPs. It's nice to see such a healthy specimen though.
When it comes to feeding, be careful with the tubifex. Tubifex is quite fattening, and should not be used as regular food. Burrfishes can be a bit tricky with food though.
