Dreaming: 3000 gal tank.. what's in it?

Post by J-P »

Here's the scenario:

My wife and I are looking at moving. We are currently looking at a small cafe with an apartment above to live. The cafe looks like it had a 6 seat counter and 2 tables sectioned off at the back. If I were to take out those 2 tables from that back section and do a floor to ceiling acrylic tank, it would roughly be 3000 gals.

Water changes would have to be minimal due to dechlor costs.
Pumps and circulation would have to be minimal due to electrical costs.

How would you set it up and stock it?
Rough dimensions: L: 400cm; W: 140cm; H: 200cm. Sorry for the metric. That is all I have at the moment.

I would be too worried about it falling through the floor to stock it. Is the dream in freshwater, saltwater or something in between?
What you need is a cafe with its own well.

:)

Welcome to the forum Muffuletta :)

I don't know if it is FW, SW or BW. I am not worried about it falling through the floor. The well part is a good thought. Too costly. If anything I'd truck water in. There are 2 local rivers and lakes, and the ocean is not to far away so all possibilities are open. If water had to be trucked in, there would have to be some sort of holding / treatment tanks which is not beyond possibility.

For xray .. that was an 800gal I believe.

I was thinking of Koi, but the tank would be too deep.

It is the first image on the left... take out those tables and put in a tank.

To be honest - if partials and flow must be compromised, I would not do it at all.

Any really large tank should be at least semi-automated.

Purely personal note, JMHO and YMMV: That T. mbu + Cichlid tank on MFK gives me the shudders.. I sent the url to several folks I know as among the worst fish abuses I had seen. NIMFT, never under any circumstances. That is the stuff of nightmares.

J-P, I would go with a Mbu and a bunch of large more peaceful fishes other then the more aggressive cichlids like the tank on MFK website, imo.

LOL. I'd go with a ton of GSPs (okay, I'm obsessed), and tons of plants.
