I need more infermation on green spotted puffers

black light is easy.. you take out the bulb in your tank and replace it with the same size.

Or you can go with blue light.. same thing

Tomorrow morning you can feed the puffer 1/2 the normal amount of food and tomorrow NIGHT you can do a water change. I know Sunday is your cleaning day, but only clean the filter.

You keep saying no to a lot of fish because you say they did not live long.

But you are not understanding that these fish are some of the hardiest fish around.

The problem is not with the fish, the problem is because the way they were cared for.

I personally have had Bettas live for years, even when I did not know as much as I do now. And I have had glofish live for years as well. Right now my second school of glofish, still has members from my first school many years ago.

Bettas and glofish can live through a lot, but they cannot live in uncycled tanks and too small tanks and so forth.

And you keep wanting more exotic fish, when you say all these other fish have not lived long. Do you think these more delicate, exotic fish are going to do better than the most durable of fish, bettas?

I am not trying to be mean, I just want you to understand that hardy fish do not simply die for no reason..they die because of poor care.

Why don't you try bettas or glofish again. Now that you know you need to have cycled tank and now that J-P has told you how to do water changes.

Once you can get those fish to live for a long time..a few years...then you can try other types of fish.

Fish keeping is hard and a specialized science. First learn the basics and then move on to more challenges.

may be its me may be i have a tarable time with them because i dont get ones that are healthy enough? i mean i have had gold fish and they have lived for years on even was dumb enough to get his head stuck in a casale that was in the tank when he was just a tine gold fish dad had to save him not once but twice and he lived three years after that

btw they are both doing great now and i talked it over with my mother and when he gets biger i can take him back to the pet shop so he well have a better chance of life

There are 2 things happening here:
1) We have to keep that puffer alive.
2) We (you) have to choose a fish or a few fish that will live in a 10 gal.

Right now we are focusing on #1. #2 is up to you and your family

Herminejanepotter12 what purplecandle is trying to tell you is that the fish you have now, the GSP, is sometimes not for the beginner fish keepers. Add the fact that you can't accommodate this fishes needs with the fact that it isn't a easy fish to keep is a receipt for disaster.
He needs to go back sooner rather than when he gets bigger, it is not fair to you or the fish the longer you wait ( don''t you get attached to the fish the longer you wait? plus the fact that he will probably have stunned growth) .... no excuses, I think I have heard them all.

I know in your future you will get another, it just isn't right this time. I was the same .. I bought 6 green spotted puffers. They all died. I was determined to be a better fish keeper and with the help of the forum, Puffer Punk and others I have learned a lot.

I agree--if your parents will allow you to trade the puffer in for something else, do it now. Find a fish store that keeps salt water & they should take better care of it.

100% agreed! There are so many nice, colorful, interesting fish that would be much better suited for your 10g tank. Now that you have the hang of water changes, you should be able to keep many of them alive.
